Comments from Terry Seidler [terry.seidler@comcast.net] - I called Marty Conn at his Beachwood, Ohio number today (Nov. 1, 2006) to ask about "Berea Bounce." He said "Berea Bounce" was made sometime in the 50s. A. Russ = Al Russ an arranger with a band of his own who wrote the music. The music is played by Marty Conn and his band with Ramon Stone on trumpet as the label says.
Marty said the record was made for Bill Randall, popular DJ at Cleveland's WERE and it was a "big hit" at the time. Also, Pee Wee Hunt (and his ragtime band) recorded it for MGM. {As one who was in Berea during the 50s and into music this one must have sailed over my head!}
I wanted to know what inspired "Berea" in the title. He was not able to give me a clear answer on this. He did say "we just wanted to do a number for Berea" but he couldn't recall a special reason.
Marty Conn said that both Al Russ and Ramon Stone have passed away.
